ACTIF was established with the major aim of transforming the social and economic life of the Paliyar tribe living on the lower Palani hills of Tamilnadu, south India.
Since the time of the British rule in India the Paliyars have found themselves being pushed off their ancestral land, once public land becoming privatised and deforestation to make way for plantations. The Paliyars have been identified as the most neglected
tribes residing in the area. It is ACTIF's mission to assist with the empowerment of the Paliyar tribal people, enabling them a life of self-determination and dignity with social, economic and cultural enjoyment.
Projects are organised to address issues such as education, health, livelihoods, sustainability and inclusion in government schemes and policies.
